SEPTEMBER 11

Remembering the sacrifices of those who lost their lives in the 2001 attacks

It has been our tradition to remember each September 11 by bringing the community together for breakfast at the fire station.  The firefighters foot the bill, so there’s never a charge for the meal — but guests are welcome to make donations to the charity we’ve chosen that year.  This year,  concerns about the
spread of COVID-19 prevent us from inviting guests into the station. Still, you might join us in spirit as we remember the 2001 terrorist attacks in a variety of ways. Our personnel are making a gift to the North Kitsap Boys and Girls Club in honor of the attacks’ victims, and hope you’ll consider doing the same.  We’re awed by this beautiful video from the Puget Sound Firefighters Pipes and Drums, featuring 9/11 memorial installations across the region and including Kitsap’s own. The Kitsap 9/11 Memorial Committee and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 239 are hosting a ceremony at 5:30 p.m. on September 11 at Evergreen Park in Bremerton. Check out this lovely remembrance by Kingston Scouts at Village Green Park called “Pinwheels for Peace.”
