About NKFR

North Kitsap Fire & Rescue (NKFR) is a fire protection district that includes the communities of Hansville, Kingston, Indianola, Miller Bay, Suquamish and Port Gamble S’Klallam on the northeastern tip of Washington state’s Kitsap Peninsula.

We are especially committed to training, education and community engagement. When crews aren’t responding to emergencies, they are often drilling at a training tower or around their stations. We are also quite active in the community, continuously seeking opportunities to meet our mission through prevention and to add value between emergencies. We have been successful with ballot measures, thanks to these efforts as well as our excellence in emergency response. Entry-Level Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT): Learn more in this flyer and job description. We are currently accepting applications to fill three positions for entry-level Firefighter/EMT.

Ride-alongs are not being scheduled during the hiring process.

How to Apply:
  1. Candidates apply for the position via the National Testing Network (NTN) and complete the FireTEAM exam and the Public Safety Self Assessment (Parts 1 & 2).
  2. Candidates must also submit an NKFR application, a resume and proof of successful Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) taken through NTN or PST to Director of Administrative Services Katie Patti via email to patti@nkfr.org or via US Mail or in-person to 26642 Miller Bay Rd NE Kingston, WA 98346.
Deadlines:

Application materials are due March 13, 2026 by 4 p.m.
Proof of CPAT completion has an extended deadline of April 17, 2026 by 4 p.m.

Expected Hiring Timeline:
  • Applications Due: March 13 by 4 p.m.
  • Oral Boards: March 23 – March 27
  • Proof of CPAT Due: April 17 by 4 p.m.
  • Chief’s Interview: April 20 – April 24
  • Official Offer: By April 27
  • Target Start Date: July 1
