General Precautions Against Fire    
  Remove accumulated trash and/or vegetation from around the building.
  Remove accumulated trash and/or waste material from inside the building, or store in an approved container.
  Place dumpster at least 5 feet away from the building.
  Maintain the proper clearances between ignition sources and combustible items.
  Lower the height of storage to more than 2 feet below the ceiling in non-sprinklered spaces, and more than 18 inches below sprinkler heads.
  Remove combustibles stored around exits.
  Remove combustibles stored in equipment rooms.
  When unsprinklered attics or other concealed spaces are being used for storage, these areas must be protected with 1-hour rated construction.
         
Emergency Planning and Preparedness      
  Prepare a fire safety and evacuation plan.      
  Conduct regular emergency evacuation drills.      
        
Fire Service Features  
  Maintain fire department's road access to the structure.      
  Clearly mark non-functional interior doors.      
  Post clear and legible address numbers.      
  Install and maintain a keybox.      
  Maintain fire department access to hydrants and other fire protection equipment.
         
Building Services and Systems      
  Maintain proper clearance in front of electrical panel.      
  Properly mark and identify door to Electrical Control Room.      
  Clearly mark electrical panel breakers.      
  Discontinue use of extension cords as a substitute for permanent wiring.
  Discontinue use of non-approved multiplug adapters (such as those without internal circuit breakers)
  Clean and maintain electrical motors.      
  No exposed wiring; outlet and junction boxes, fixtures must have a cover faceplate or fixture canopy.
         
Fire Resistance-Rated Construction      
  Repair or replace damaged/missing fire-resistant construction.      
  Repair and maintain fire doors.
Remove items hanging from acoustical ceiling system.
Replace or replace damaged/missing acoustical tiles.
     
  Provide annual inspection of all vertical or horizontal fire doors.      
         
Fire Protection Systems      
  Maintain records of fire protection systems' tests for 3 years.      
  Fire detection, alarm and extinguishing systems must be maintained and operational at all times. Alarm and sprinkler systems should be tested annually.
  Provide required fire extinguishers.      
  Service fire extinguishers annually.      
  Post signs indicating the position of extinguishers, if neccessary.
  Locate and mount extinguishers where readily available, within the required travel distances.
  Cooking equipment involving oils and fats must be protected  with a Class K portable fire extinguisher.
  Commercial cooking operations must be protected by a system that includes a means of manual activation, automatic fuel/electrical shut-off and automatic ventilation shut-off.
  Automatic fire extinguishing systems for commercial cooking equipment shall be maintained and serviced as required.
         
Means of Egress    
  Post and enforce occupant load.      
  Repair emergency lighting.      
  Exit door is obscured.      
  Exit door does not operate correctly.      
  Post exit signs.      
  Repair exit signs.      
  Maintain exits, exit passageway(s), doors and other means of egress.
   
Hazardous Materials
  Storage of flammable and combustible liquids in excess of 10 gallons must be in an approved cabinet.
  Arrange flammable and combustible liquids in an orderly manner.
  Remove Class I flammable liquids stored in the basement or beneath means of egress.
  Secure all gas cylinders to prevent tipping.
