January 31, 2001 01-08-01 (KINGSTON, Kitsap County) -- A 14 year-old boy, riding his skateboard in a parking area with a group of other youths, was struck by a car here this afternoon. North Kitsap Fire & Rescue crews were called to the Pizza Factory, where employees had called 9-1-1 and were caring for the patient, shortly before 4:30pm. Firefighters found the boy to have suffered apparently minor head and leg injuries, and the patient was taken by family members to a local doctor's office. He had not been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. According to the boy's companions, the incident took place on a service road that runs behind the Kingston Thriftway shopping complex. Skid marks and pieces of the ruined skateboard were evident in the area. The car apparently left the scene. The Kitsap County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash, and is looking for the vehicle: a white passenger sedan, driven by a 30's-aged male with a beard. The skateboarders believe the crash may have caused damage to the driver's side of the car. Persons with information on the whereabouts of the car are asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 337-7101 or 9-1-1. |
