November 11, 2000 * 00-92-01 (KINGSTON, Kitsap County) -- North Kitsap Fire & Rescue (NKF&R) was summoned to the Kingston Inn shortly before midnight Friday when smoke from an undetermined source began to fill the popular local restaurant. NKF&R firefighters, joined by a ladder truck from Puget Sound Federal Firefighters at Subase Bangor, arrived at the scene moments after eing dispatched to the possible commercial structure fire. Employees and customers had already evacuated the building. Crews found substantial smoke inside the restaurant, but no flames. After searching for nearly two hours, firefighters were unable to pinpoint the source of the smoke that had permeated the building. During investigation, however, firefighters found numerous safety problems that could easily have sparked a blaze. Concerned that another fire might break out, crews requested the assistance of a fire inspector from the Kitsap County Fire Marshal's Office who ordered the restaurant closed until the safety issues could be resolved. |
